Atl-what?! Come find out!

Long before the bow and arrow, ancient peoples relied on the spear-thrower, or "atlatl," for survival. Come join us to try your hand at using the atlatl and to learn more about the history of this fascinating, ancient technology! Must be at least 8 years old to participate. 

 

Where: Check in early at Park Headquarters to obtain a tour ticket then meet at the Big Tree parking lot. *There are no facilities at the Big Tree.

Bring:

  • Closed-toed shoes (tennis shoes are best)
  • Drinking water
  • This program is outdoors; please dress for the weather.

 

FYI:

  • Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the program.

  • Program is free with park entrance ($5/person, children 12 & under are free) or Texas State Parks Annual Pass.

  • Reserving your day pass in advance is strongly encouraged and can be done at TexasStateParks.ReserveAmerica.com. Use self-pay station when office is closed.
  • Program may be cancelled if no participants are present within 10 minutes of the start time, or in the case of inclement weather.

  • Groups larger than eight, please contact Ranger Sarah for a private event.
