Birding Outing: Golden-cheeked Warblers

Did you know EVERY Golden-cheeked Warbler born on Planet Earth is a Native Texan?? It’s true! Come learn about these federally-listed endangered songbirds who come to Government Canyon every Spring to nest, mate and start their families here in the Texas Hill Country.

Join knowledgeable birders from the Friends of Government Canyon Activities Committee and experience these amazing birds in person. 8:00AM -11AM. Volunteers will meet you at the rainwater harvesting tower at the Visitor Center. Wear sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, and bring at least one liter of water per person. BYO binoculars or let us know when you register if you’d like to borrow a pair.

This special program is limited to just 10 people, and participants must be 12 years or older, so reservations are required! Reserve your spot at https://friendsofgovernmentcanyon.org/events/

Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event. Sorry, no group registrations and minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian; no pets please.

Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. Plan to arrive early as Saturday mornings can be very busy. The Natural Area’s front gates open at 7AM and the outing begins promptly at 8AM.

To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance on crowded days, please reserve your Day Pass here: https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/government-canyon-state-natural-area/r/deDetails.do?contractCode=TX&parkId=1200058

SPECIAL NOTE: Reserving a Day Pass is not the same as making a program reservation!

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation.
