Father's Day Hike

Join Ranger Nic for a 4 mile hike on the Bluff Spurs with a Father's Day twist

Grab your father figure and bring them out for a Father's Day themed Hike at Government Canyon.

This hike is approximately 4 miles in length with a fair amount of elevation gain over rocky, rugged terrain. The hike leads to an amazing overlook where you can get a real sense of the canyon that is our namesake. Your hike leader will be our site superintendent who is very knowledgeable about our geology, history and much more!

No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.  Group size is limited to the first 16 people who arrive.

All Natural Area entry fees apply.

Meet at the main Visitor Center near the tall Rainwater Harvesting Tower and Rock Garden. Plan to be at the Visitor Center/Rock Garden and ready to go no later than 7:45AM; the hike starts promptly at 8 AM.

Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring one (1) liter of water PER PERSON and a snack if you like.

The hike is free although Natural Area Entry fees do apply. To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance on crowded days, please reserve your Day Pass by visiting https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/government-canyon-state-natural-area/r/deDetails.do?contractCode=TX&parkId=1200058

This hike is subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by going to the GCSNA Webpage, or checking any of our Social Media feeds (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
