First Day Hikes and Mountain Bike Ride

An event you won't want to miss!

Be a part of a national movement to get people into state parks! Join Government Canyon State Natural Area volunteers on either a hike or bike ride on the first day of the year. No matter which activity you choose, you will be able to boast being one of the First Visitors to enjoy the trails of Government Canyon in 2018. Here are the available activities for 2018:

9:00AM – 2PM   Hike to the Dinosaur Tracks…about 6 miles round trip

10:00AM – 3PM Hike Far Reaches/Wildcat Canyon Trails…about 6-7 miles round trip

11:00AM – 2PM Hike Bluff Spurs Trail…about 3 miles round trip

9:00AM – Noon Bike Ride in the Backcountry…about 7 miles round trip

Dinosaur Track Hike open to ages 5 and above; Far Reaches and Bluff Spurs hikes open to ages 13 and above. All minors on hikes must be accompanied by an adult; each hike group size limited to the first 12 people who register. No pets please.

For hike: dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes for hiking over rough terrain; bring two liters of water and a snack.

Bike Ride open to adults only; bike group limited to first eight people who register; bike ride participants must wear helmets. No pets please.

For bike: dress in layers, wear appropriate shoes for biking and BYO bike helmet; bring two liters of water and a snack.

Reservations are required and may be made through noon on Dec. 31, 2017. Sorry, no group reservations. To register, please go to Natural Areas fees apply.
