First Day of 2022-Birding Outing

Start the new year right with your feathered friends!

Members of the Government Canyon Activities Committee welcome anyone interested in our feathered friends for a birding outing at the Natural Area on the first day of 2022 from 8 - 10 AM.  Learn about the fun and excitement of birding, including tips on using binoculars, cameras, field guides and sound recordings. Bring your own equipment or let us know if we can loan you a pair of binoculars when you make your reservation. This outing will make use of a paved road and the accessible terrain adjacent to the road with a mild elevation gain along the way.

Volunteers will meet you at the rainwater harvesting tower at the Visitor Center.

Please dress for the weather and be prepared for sunny conditions - there will be limited cover on the road. Bring at least one liter of water and a snack if you like.

Group size is limited to 8 participants; participants must be at least 8 years of age or older; participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  Reservations are required; sorry, no group reservations. Reserve your spot online.

Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event.

Natural Area entrance fees apply.

(Special Note:  Birding outings may be cancelled due to severe weather conditions - no rain dates are offered.)
