May the Forest Be With You

Join dedicated volunteers for a special holiday edition of our regular First Saturday Hike at Government Canyon SNA.

Join dedicated volunteers for an informative and FUN hike at Government Canyon SNA.

Knowledgeable guides will discuss the flora, fauna, natural and cultural history of Government Canyon State Natural Area. This hike recurs most months, but the length of hike and interpretive topic(s) will vary depending on the group.

Open to ages 10 and older. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No pets please. Meet at the rainwater harvesting tower at the Visitor Center.

Program Reservations NOT Required!

Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. The Natural Area’s front gates open at 7AM and the hike begins promptly at 8AM. Plan to arrive early as Saturday mornings can be very busy. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass.

Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear for hiking over rough terrain. Bring two liters of water per person, and a snack.

Plan to be at the Visitor Center no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM.

If ADA assistance is required, please email accessibility@tpwd.texas.gov at least 2 weeks in advance.

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
