Join us on a trip back in time with a short but beautiful hike to the historic Kallison Ranch complex.

Join us on a trip back in time with a short but beautiful hike to the historic Kallison Ranch complex. Not normally open to the public, you will be treated to some incredible scenic views while learning about one of Government Canyon’s founding families.

The hike is approximately 2.5 miles round trip over sections of moderately rough terrain. We will discuss how Texas was settled in the late 1800s and learn about the highly influential Kallison family and their legacy.

Hike is open to ages 10 and older. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

Registration is NOT required for this hike, but it is limited to the first 30 people to check in with the guides. Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entrance fees apply. On busy days, it can take awhile to move through the line at the entrance. Please arrive early. To save time at the Fee Booth on crowded days and ensure entrance, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass

This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.

Meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor Center. Please be in place and ready to go no later than 1:45 pm.

Dress for hiking outdoors; comfortable shoes, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and a snack.

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at (210) 688-9055, or go to GCSNA’s website, Instagram, or Facebook page.
