Night Hike

Experience the Canyon after dark!

Join knowledgeable guides on a fairly short hike and maybe we’ll even howl at the moon if it’s up and glowing!  5:30PM – 7:30 PM. Participants should be able to hike 3 miles (round trip) over rugged but beautiful trails with some elevation gain. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes; open-toed footwear and/or sandals are NOT recommended. Bring a flashlight, at least one (1)  quart of water per person, and a snack if you like.

Open to ages 14 and older; minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian; no pets please.

This special hike is limited to just 12 participants, so reservations are required! Reserve your spot online at https://friendsofgovernmentcanyon.org/events?view=calendar&month=12-2022

Sorry, no group reservations. Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event.

Meet at the Visitor Center by the Rainwater Harvesting Tower. Plan to arrive early; the hike starts promptly at 5:30PM. If you are late you’ll miss out!

To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please reserve and PRINT OUT your Day Pass by going to: https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/government-canyon-state-natural-area/r/deDetails.do?contractCode=TX&parkId=1200058.

IMPORTANT INFO:

Making your program reservation is not the same as reserving your Day Pass. Please be sure to do both.

Since this hike begins after hours, if you DO NOT reserve your Day Pass in advance, be sure to self-register as you enter the Natural Area. Instructions are posted to the right of the Fee Booth. You will need correct change: $6 per adult (13 years or older), or enter your annual Texas State Parks pass number on the appropriate line of the self-pay envelope.

Due to weather conditions this program is subject to cancellation.
