Sunset History Hike

Interested in Government Canyon History? Join us on the first Kallison Sunset History Hike!

April 29th – Sunset History Hike

Have you wondered why the subdivisions and schools around the Natural Area are named “Kallison”?  Come make history and learn about some of Government Canyon’s history on our inaugural Sunset History Hike - the very first public tour of the Kallison Ranch complex - Saturday April 29th from 5PM to 8PM.  We will hike about 2.5 miles round trip over some moderately rough terrain to explore parts of the historic Kallison ranch complex and enjoy some incredible scenic views.   We will discuss some of the history of how Texas was settled in the late 1800’s, and learn about the highly influential Kallison family, how their ranch came to be, why it is no more, and the impact they had on Texas agriculture.

Moderate intensity 2.5 mile hike; participants must be able to walk over rocky, uneven ground.

The Natural Area can be very busy! To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please reserve and PRINT OUT your day pass.

Standard Natural Area entry fees apply. Open to all ages (recommended ages 8 and up); Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No pets or strollers please. Meet at the Visitor's Center by the rainwater harvesting tower.
