The History of Government Canyon

🎉 Guess what? It's All About Water!

State Parks Centennial logoWhat actually IS Government Canyon and what is it all about? Why, it’s all about water!

Join site interpreter John Koepke from 11 AM-noon at the amphitheater for an opportunity to learn everything you’ve even wondered about San Antonio’s largest State Natural Area.

Discover how water has shaped every aspect of this area: its name and its history, why the Natural Area was created in the first place, its role in protecting our aquifer, and the role every one of us plays in the future protection and preservation of our most precious of all resources…water!

Open to all ages, no reservations required, no pets please. Meet at the Nathan & Anna Kallison Amphitheater located in Parking Lot C. Come prepared with lots of questions… it’ll be a free-wheeling conversation that you’ll truly enjoy!

Be advised the Natural Area can be very busy! To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth please reserve and PRINT OUT your day pass in advance.

This is one of many 100-year celebration events happening in Texas state parks this year. Entry to a park is free on the day it hosts an official 100-Year Celebration (applies to day passes only). Guarantee entry by reserving your free day pass up to one month before this special event.

This program is subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by going to the GCSNA Twitter feed, or the GCSNA Facebook Page.
