Lunar Eclipse Viewing

Observe the night sky, take a look through a telescope, and learn about the moon while watching it move through Earth's shadow!

When: You may arrive and leave at any time during the program. However, times to note are: partial eclipse begins at 9:27pm and total eclipse begins at 10:29pm.

What to bring: Please dress for the weather. Bring your own drinking water bottle. Flashlights (red light preferred) are recommended for watching where you are walking. Bringing items such as binoculars, a folding chair or a blanket to sit on, and snack items are recommended but not required.

Where: Meet at the Chapa group camp area, about 1 mile south of the HQ building.

Parking: Parking will be available in the mowed portion of the field (beside the large rocks), behind the barn. Please exit the same way you enter.

Cost: This program is free with (day-use or camping) park entrance permit. Day-use entrance is $6 per person 13 years and up, free for visitors 12 years and under, and free to Texas State Park Pass holders. Entrance permit reservations are recommended and can be made online or by phone.

If you are arriving after office hours, please use the self-pay station, located in front of the HQ building, to obtain your park entrance permit to place in your vehicle. The self-pay station takes cash (exact change), check, reservation, or Texas State Parks Pass only.
