Turkeys, Turtle Doves and Toucans, Oh My!

It’s almost Turkey Day, so let’s celebrate by learning about our feathered friends!

Are you wondering what turkeys, turtle doves and toucans have in common? Join a park ranger to learn about the importance of birds around the world! Then, spend time observing our local birds at Hill Country State Natural Area.

  • Sign up at the bird banding station inside Headquarters from 9:00-9:15 am. The rest of the program will take place outside in the Butterfly Garden.
  • Turkeys, Turtle Doves and Toucans, Oh My! will last about one hour, but feel free to stay and bird as long as you’d like!
  • What to bring: Water, hats, sunscreen, and closed-toe shoes. Binoculars and field guides optional.
  • Fees: Free with park admission. Park entrance fees are $6 per adult (13 years of age and older), free for children under 13.
  • Note: Turkeys, Turtle Doves and Toucans, Oh My! will take place in the rain, but may be cancelled due to severe weather. Be sure to call park headquarters with questions regarding the weather!
