The Escontrias Family Legacy - Ranch History of Hueco Tanks

Explore early ranch life in El Paso and Socorro from Irma Sanchez Escontrias, granddaughter of Silvario Escontrias.

HTSP&HS is excited to host Irma Escontrias Sanchez ( ), who will share family stories of ranch life in early El Paso and Socorro and discuss her family's legacy. Ms. Sanchez is a granddaughter of Silverio and Pilar Escontrias, who operated a ranch on what would become Hueco Tanks SP&HS and whose home now serves as its Interpretive Center. Mr. Escontrias is fondly remembered for establishing the first school in Socorro, Texas, known today as the Escontrias Elementary School.

*** Reservations are not required for the talk, but are needed to enter the self-guided area afterwards. Please call the Park Headquarters to confirm your attendance prior to the event. Please be aware that there will be a $2 fee for the tour in addition to the admission fee to enter the park ($7 for ages 13 and up).***
