CCC Day at Ravens Lodge

The Civilian Conservation Corps built more than parks, they built better communities, a better nation, and improved their lives.

During the Great Depression, while unemployment was high, the New Deal ushered in a work program. This employed young men to work across the US planting trees, fighting erosion and building park infrastructure.

Huntsville State Park was built with the work of three companies. Groundwork was done by two forestry companies. Then, the parks infrastructure was put in place by and African American Veteran Company.

Learn about the history of the CCC, a day in the life of an enrollee, the benefits of enlisting and about their work in Huntsville. Hear from the men themselves through their writings and reports.
