Open Night Hike

7:30p to 9:30p
Sat, May 21, 2022
Jamie Langham
(830) 637-9327

Join Ranger Jamie, and other staff and volunteers, on a night hike! We will talk about nocturnal creatures and see if we hear or see any on the trail!

Come join one of the few open-registration Night Hikes of the year!

We will be learning about nocturnal creatures, using UV lights to try to spot insects that glow in the dark, and hopefully hear or even catch a glimpse of night time critters. IMPORTANT,  PLEASE READ: We will be hiking the Valley Spring Creek Trail (approximately 1.4 miles), which for the most part is easy but there are steep and moderate sections, so this particular hike may not be suitable for everyone; strollers and wheelchairs are also not recommended. I would also request only older children (8+) participate due to the length and difficulty. Sorry, no pets will be allowed on this hike.

As stated above, while most of our Night Hikes have a strict maximum number of people, this hike will not. As such you do NOT need to email or call to "register" your party, just meet the group at the Devil's Waterhole Trailhead NO LATER THAN 7:30PM.

Difficulty: easy-moderate

Length: 1.4 miles and approximately 2 hours of hiking

Meet: Devil's Waterhole Trailhead NO LATER THAN 7:30pm. Remember that parking in that parking lot is limited so plan to get there several minutes earlier just in case you need to park farther away in an overflow spot and walk to the trailhead.

Bring: Water, good hiking shoes, regular flashlight and RED flashlights!

Cost: Free with park admission, and park admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass. On busy weekends, reserve your day use pass early online!

Don't forget to follow us on Twitter (@InksLakeSP), Instagram, and Facebook for all the latest information about park events!

All events subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.
