What came before the bow and arrow?

Long before the bow and arrow, ancient peoples relied on the spear-thrower, or “atlatl” for survival. Come join us to try your hand at using the atlatl and to learn more about the history of this fascinating, ancient technology!

Meet: at the day use side of Javelina Camping Loop.

Bring: sun protection, water, and close-toed shoes.

Cost: Free with park admission ($5 for each person 13 years and older, free for each person 12 and younger).

Notes:

  • It is recommended that you reserve your day-use entry for this program, as we often sell out on weekends. 
  • Participants must be 10 years or older to attend.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult.
