Do you dare to be scared? Registration required.

Are you brave enough to hike a haunted trail in the dark?  If so, don’t miss this year’s TRAIL OF TERROR, presented by Lockhart State Park in collaboration with Lockhart Hike School’s Drama Club! The Trail is ¾-mile long and crawling with the undead, monsters, and more. This year's theme is Runaway Circus. Due to graphic content, we recommend this activity for ages 10+. Hike at your own risk.

Registration: Participants must register for a start time to attend. Start times are in 5-minute intervals between 7:30pm and 9:30pm. Only 2-6 participants will be allowed per start time. Children under 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Please call park HQ at 512-398-3479 during business hours (8am-5pm daily) to register for this program. Please have your 1st & 2nd choice of date/start time and the total number in your group ready when you call. We do not take registration requests via email or fb messenger.

Prepare: Wear sturdy shoes and bug repellent. The hike is ¾-mile on moderate terrain with several steep and dark areas. You are allowed to bring 1 flashlight per group, but we may cover it in red cellophane to make it darker. Please leave cell phones at home. To save time during check-in, you can pre-pay your entrance fees up to 30 days in advance online (click here).

Meet: Meet us at the Creekview Trailhead at your registered start time. If driving from park headquarters, take your first left-hand turn, pass the campgrounds, and park along the paved loop. Please arrive early to allow time to check into the park before continuing to the Creekview Trailhead. You will not be permitted to participate if you arrive at the trailhead later than your registered start time.

Fees: Event is free with paid entry to the park (regular park entrance fees are $3/adult ages 13+), but donations to Lockhart High School’s Drama Club are highly encouraged. Consider how much a haunted house or similar event would cost per person. We suggest bringing cash and donating the difference to support the young men and women who volunteered to make this event possible.
