First Day Hike

Join us for a walk back in time to life of early settlers in the Texas Hill Country!

State Parks Centennial logo  Meet at the State Park Visitor Center, located at 199 State Park Rd. 52, Stonewall, TX 78671 at 9:30 AM. There is only one hike for the day, it will depart promptly at 10 AM!

This will be an easy to moderate difficulty hike on level terrain. Hike will be 1.25 to 1.5 miles in length.  We will begin at the Visitor Center and walk to see the part of the Official Texas Longhorn Herd. From there we will continue to the LBJ Statue. Then we will hike along the Nature Trail to the historic Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm which is set in 1918/World War One time period. After viewing the farm, we walk to the Cabins to see the dwellings that some of the first German settlers to the Hill Country lived in and finish up back at the Visitor Center!

Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable, closed-toed walking/hiking shoes, water, hat, sunscreen and jacket. Pets are welcome if they are on a leash no longer than 6 feet. There is no minimum age for children, but children aged 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

This is one of many 100-year celebration events happening in Texas state parks this year.
