Join us as we walk to break the stigma around mental health and support veterans and families impacted by the unseen wounds of service.

Join us as we host our 4th Annual Veteran Suicide Awareness Ruck Hike on September 5, 2026! This event aims to raise awareness about veteran mental health and suicide. We ask participants to bring a pack or bag weighing 17 pounds to represent veterans lost to suicide every day. 17 pounds of canned foods is encouraged which will be donated to a local food bank. Park entrance fees will be waived for participants. Please check in at HQ and let the staff know you are participating in the Veteran Ruck Hike. Who is Invited: This hike is open to all ages. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Where to Meet: We will meet at the Smith Visitor Center and head to the starting area on the Onion Creek Trail. The Onion Creek Trail is 2.8 miles and is paved making it ideal for mobility use. We have several all-terrain wheelchairs available for your use but these will need to be requested in advance. How to Prepare: Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and if desired, a snack.
