9:00a to 10:30a

Don’t quiver, practice archery at the park no (bow)strings attached!

Visit Mission Tejas State Park for an introductory archery lesson with Ranger Jared and our Superintendent and Certified Instructor- Mr. Gary Coker! All equipment will be provided by the park, with bows in both youth and adult sizes.

  • First we will discuss why archery was important to the American Indian groups of Texas, including the Caddo Confederacy who called this part of the state home.
  •  Do you know what bow wood found here in their territory made Caddo trade associations valuable throughout North America?
  • We will go over archery safety, proper technique, and then let the arrows fly!
  • After a few practice heats, those who desire can enter a shootout to win a MTSP walking stick (youth and adults will compete separately).

Meet behind the Park HQ! Participants may want to bring water, bug spray, appropriate clothing and footwear for the outdoors, and a keen eye!

***Attendance to this event is open to the public and free after regular day use or camping fees.
