Deck the Halls with Bows and Arrows

10:00a to 11:30a

Jared Shamburger

Come poke some holes in our targets this hole-iday season!

Visit Mission Tejas State Park for an introductory archery lesson with our Interpretive Ranger Jared and our Superintendent and Certified Instructor Gary!

- We will discuss why archery was important to the American Indian groups of Texas, including the Caddo Confederacy who called this part of the state home. Do you know what bow wood found here in their territory made Caddo trade associations valuable throughout North America?

- We will go over archery safety, proper technique, and then let the arrows fly! All equipment will be provided by the park, with bows in both youth and adult sizes.

- After a few practice heats, those who desire can enter a shootout to win a special prize (youth and adults will compete separately).

Meet in the Festival Grounds behind HQ. Participants should bring water, appropriate clothing and footwear for the outdoors, and a keen eye!

*Attendance to this event is open to the public and free after regular day use or camping fees.
