Taste what it was like to chow down as a pioneer, and learn about Dutch oven cooking!

Come to the park and learn how early homesteaders in Texas cooked, what they typically ate, and have a taste to see if you could’ve cut it on the frontier!

  • We will demonstrate cooking cornbread with a Dutch oven, other fare, and safe over the fire cooking methods.
  • There will be a representation of how corn was ground from the American Indian way, to frontier millstones.
  • There may even be some iced yaupon or holly tea!
  • Guest participation will be encouraged and appreciated
  • Meet near the Rice Log Home!

Bring water, bug spray, appropriate clothing and footwear for the outdoors, and an empty stomach!

*This event is open to the public and free after regular day use or camping fees.
