Edible Plant Walk ― Survival Snacks

1:00p to 1:45p
Sat, September 28, 2019
Jared Shamburger

Food surrounds you in ETX! Learn to spot the good, the bad, and the nasty…

You don’t have to walk very far in the Pineywoods to find a snack! Join Ranger Jared in this easy <1 mile stroll around the Park Headquarters and Rice Home to ID some edible plants!

- There are well over 10 edible plants just in the area around HQ, but can you spot them?

-Tag along on this short nature walk to explore the edibles of ETX, but remember ― no gathering plants at the park! You can take this knowledge back to your yard, pasture, city park, or foraging friendly National Forest.

- From having a salad to handling the apocalypse, foraging is a fun and useful outdoor activity that connects us to our history and heritage.

Bring water, appropriate clothing and footwear for hiking, mosquito spray, and your inner rabbit!

Meet at the Visitor's Center.

***Attendance to this event is open to the public and free AFTER regular day use or camping fees.
