Come to Mission Tejas for a crash course on Rocks 101 and join us for a guided hike to view the Weches Eocene Formation.

Mission Tejas State Park is a good place for East Texas to have an introduction to the wide world of the study of rocks and their millions-of-years-long cycles.

We will meet at the Commemorative Mission to begin by inspecting different stone samples and go over the basics of rock ID and uses. Afterwards, we will go on a relatively easy hike to the Hardwood Trail and get a look at the Weches Eocene Formation; a unique rock strata dating back from 56- to just under 34-million years ago. This strata is known for its high iron levels and marine fossils from East TX and Louisiana's time being submerged under water.

Where: We will meet at the Commemorative Mission in the middle of the park; restrooms available.

When: Saturday, May 9th @ 1:30 PM.

CostRegular admission into the park: $3/person. Children 12 and under (and carriers of a valid Texas State Parks Pass) get in for free!

Please don't forget to bring water!
