If you’ve visited Mother Neff in the summer, you’ve likely seen clusters of daddy-long-legs gathered in Tonkawa Cave. Join a ranger to discover more about these fascinating creatures.

Daddy‑long‑legs are one of the park’s most recognizable summer inhabitants, often gathering in large, gentle clusters in cool, shaded spaces... like Tonkawa Cave! During this program, we’ll take a closer look at what makes these arachnids so unique. Explore their life cycle, how they interact with one another, and the important part they play in the ecosystem at Mother Neff.

A ranger will guide you through common questions and clear up a few widespread misconceptions, helping you see these creatures in a whole new way. Whether you’re curious about their behavior or simply want to better understand the wildlife you share the park with, this program offers an approachable and engaging look at a species many visitors notice—but rarely get to know.

Difficulty: Please be aware that there is a parking area right next to the cave, but the steps down may be slippery when wet. Please walk carefully!

Meet: In the Tonkawa Cave

Cost: Free with park admission. Park admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass. Day passes can be purchased ahead of time on our website.
