Wildlife in the Stars - CANCELLED

7:30p Sat, November 02, 2019
Jamie Harman

This week's star program has been cancelled. Will be rescheduled for 11/9.

Join us to hear stories of the animals living in the stars. Most of the tales told about the stars are of Greek and Roman origin, since stories from these cultures were used in descriptions of the official 88 constellations list. We’ll learn some of these stories, but we’ll also hunt for animals seen by other cultures. Civilizations throughout history saw completely different creatures when they looked up at the sky.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • There will be a short orientation near the parking area at 7:30. Then we'll walk less than a quarter-mile on the Prairie Loop Trail to a point further away from vehicle lights.
  • No telescope will be available for this program.
  • Program is weather permitting. Look for updates on our Facebook page.

WHEN:

  • Program will begin at 7:30 PM. Please arrive at the park in time to get a permit at the self-pay station at the headquarters building and drive to program parking.

WHERE:

  • Get your permit at the HQ self-pay station. Parking is in the Prairie Loop parking area; it’s the first right after going through the silver gate.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Cash (exact change) or check for self-pay station
  • Red light flashlight
  • Camp chair or blanket
  • Binoculars will be provided.

COST:

  • Program is included in park entry fees: $2 per person ages 13 and older, 12 and under are free.
  • Buy your permits online to save time at the park!
