Celebrate this Trail Day with a hike across the river!

"Taking place on the first Saturday in June, National Trails Day® is a day of public events aimed at advocacy and trail service. Thousands of hikers, bikers, rowers, horseback riders, trail clubs, federal and local agencies, land trusts, and businesses come together in partnership to advocate for, maintain, and clean up public lands and trails."

Celebrate this day with us on a ranger guided hike across the hill country! We'll embark on Wolf Mt. trail and hike about 6 miles, seeing signs of the settlers that once lived here, abundant nature and the scenic overlooks of the Pedernales River. Along the way we'll pick up trash, remove dangerous overgrowth, and check for any damage to the trail.

*WARNING*  This is not an easy hike. Make sure you are prepared for hiking for several hours in Texas summer heat across hilly and rocky terrain. Here are some suggestions to be prepared ahead of time.

  • WATER. Bring at least 3 liters of water per person! There will not be any clean water sources along this trail.
  • Bring the right gear! Check out the 10 Essentials of Hiking and other great suggestions for a complete list of items. Don't over-pack though! This will be around three hours of hiking, maybe more if we take plenty of breaks.
  • Eat and hydrate before the trail! Having water on the trail won't help you if you start off already dehydrated!
  • Pets and children are affected differently by the heat than adults are. Its not recommended to bring them on hikes this long.
  • Watch the weather! Be prepared in the case of rain, or extreme heat. In the event of a flood, we'll change to a different trail.
  • To join, look for Ranger Steve at the Wolf Mountain Trail head.
