Join us for to walk in remembrance and learn about veteran support resources.

Join us to ruck or hike in remembrance and for the support of veterans struggling with mental health after service. We will be working with local veteran organizations to raise awareness and support for our veterans. 

Ruck Hike (Self-guided and Self-paced)

  • Time: 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM (Start and end at your own pace) 
  • Where: Wolfpen Blue Trail (2 miles)
  • Bring: Water, your own rucksack, snack, good walking shoes, hat, sunglasses. 
  • Trail Description: Mostly shaded with deep sandy sections and gradual slopes throughout. Tree roots are prominent in some sections of the trail.
    • There will be water and snack stations every 1-mile point of the trail. 
  • FYI: EMT and Rangers will be ready and equipped at trailhead. 

Slow-Paced Hikes with a Ranger

Hike 1:

  • Time: 8:30 AM
  • Meet: Wolfpen Green Trailhead Parking Lot
  • Bring: Water, your own rucksack, snack, good walking shoes, hat, sunglasses. 
  • Trail description: Relatively flat and mostly shaded with sandy sections and gradual slopes. Tree roots are prominent in some sections of the trail. The trail is ~0.85 miles and it will take us 30 - 45 minutes to an hour to walk. 

Hike 2:

  • Time: 9:45 AM
  • Meet: Wolfpen Red Trailhead Parking Lot
  • Bring: Water, your own rucksack, snack, good walking shoes, hat, sunglasses. 
  • Trail description: Relatively flat with gradual slopes and is mostly shaded. There are sections of deep sand and tree roots are present throughout the trail. The trail is ~1.25 miles and it will take us 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes to walk. 

Things to consider: 

  • Sensitive Topic: We will be raising awareness about suicide and veteran mental health. 
  • Cost: Free with admission ($5 per person 13+ years). Admission free with annual Texas State Parks Pass, and Texas State Parks Veterans passes.
