How many species of birds can we spot from a 17-foot circle?

The Great Texas Birding Classic is a statewide, month-long birding competition.

This year, South Llano River State Park will hold our Birding Classic Big Sit! as part of the 3rd  Annual South Llano River  Birding Festival! Sometimes called a tailgate party for birders, the Big Sit is a lot of fun, and we will count as many bird species as we can see and hear from within a 17-foot diameter circle. Come for a few hours and see what you can spot, or join us for the whole morning! All ages and abilities are welcome.

Meet at the Main Day Use area (take the road across from Park Headquarters, drive to the end of the road to the large parking lot). Binoculars provided, or bring your own. Wear comfortable clothes and drinking water, and feel free to bring a snack to share if you like! We'll be at a picnic table, but feel free to bring a comfortable chair if you'd like to stay for a while.

Note: Park programs are open to the public and free with park entrance ($5 per person ages 13 and up, kids 12 and under are always free!). No need to register, just show up!
