Walk a Shelter Dog
Sat, June 27, 2026
Support homeless dogs by joining our local Junction animal shelter, rescue, and park rangers on a dog walk!
Come walk a shelter dog for a great cause! Our wonderful local animal rescue and shelter will be bringing fully adoptable dogs to our park for visitors to socialize with and walk. S.C.A.R.F. and Sam B. Coffey Animal Shelter will be present with their furry friends ready to meet you!
This program will begin on the River Trail. Please park in the River Trail Parking Lot. Overflow parking is available at Buck House and at the Main Day Use Area Parking.
The length of the River Trail Loop for this program is a little over half a mile. Walkers are welcome to take a second lap.
Please register for this program by emailing michelle.king@tpwd.texas.gov. Anyone attending this program must sign a liability release waiver at the sign-in table. Walk-ups are welcome but please pre-register if possible. Children under 16 must have a parent present. You must be 16 and older to walk a dog, but younger children are welcome to attend this event with parents!
If interested in adopting, that process will have to take place off of park property and between SCARF/Sam B. Coffey Animal Shelter and adopter.
Please bring water, hiking attire recommended. Water refill stations are available at the park HQ and at the River Trail. Restrooms are available at park HQ and an outhouse at the Main Day Use Area.
Cost: Free with park admission purchase! Park admission is free for Texas State Parks Pass holders. On busy weekends, reserve your day use pass early online! Please note: Be sure you have a day pass purchased for everyone attending.
