Wonders of the Night

Take a break from the blazing heat of summer and enjoy the park after dark. Join us in this fun evening of activities to help you discover and learn about our amazing moon, stars, and night sky. Make your own guide to the stars and learn why our dark skies are disappearing. Then, top off your evening with some skygazing.

Choose any, or all, of the programs that you want to attend.  All activities will start at the park picnic pavilion.

4:00 - 5:00 PM - Moon Marvels - Craters & Phases: learn why the moon looks the way it does through hands on activities.

5:00 - 6:00 PM - Star Charts & Planispheres: Make your own star map to take home and use year around.

6:00 - 7:00 PM - Save Our Dark Skies: Find our why our dark skies are disappearing, why it matters, and what  you can do about it from International Dark-Sky Association member, Biraj Nainabasti.

7:00 - 9:30 PM - Stargazing & Star Stories:  After dark, join us in some stargazing and put your new planispheres to work finding constellation and stars. You may also want to bring binoculars and a blanket or lawn chair for this activity. Telescopes welcome too.! Note: There will be a short walk to the viewing area.

Prepare: All activities will be outside, so be sure to dress for the weather, wear closed-toed shoes, and bring insect repellent, snacks, and water.  

Cost: This program is free with a park permit. The permit is $4.00 for those 13 years old and older, 12 years and under are always free.
