Pollinator Palooza: Bioblitz at Neasloney WMA
M.O. Neasloney WMA
20700 SH 80 North
Gonzales, Tx 78629
Join our staff for daytime pollinators and after dark moth madness.
This Texas Pollinator Bioblitz event starts during daylight hours and continues into the evening, giving participants the chance to discover bees and butterflies by day and moths after dark. When night falls, a whole new world emerges on the M.O. Neasloney Wildlife Management Area (WMA).
Though often ignored in favor to their butterfly cousins, moths are far more numerous and diverse than their day-flying kin, pollinating countless flowers and supporting wildlife habitat and our local ecosystems in ways we are just barely starting to understand. Come gather around our mothing stations to meet and learn about some of the wildlife management area's most mysterious residents!

This event takes place over two days:
- Day 1: Monday, October 19, 2026, from 12:00 pm (noon) -10:30 pm
- Day 2: Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from -7:30 am -12:00 pm (noon)
Please come on out and help us collect as much high-quality data as possible during this October Bioblitz! Data collected during the event will contribute to the statewide Texas Pollinator BioBlitz and help TWPD better understand the pollinator species present on the WMA.
- iNaturalist observations recorded on the WMA during the BioBlitz will be automatically uploaded to the project.
- Compete with staff and other visitors to see who can get the most observations or species in the leader board!
- Biologists and volunteers will assist to speed up ID process.
- Data will be used to help manage the WMA!
Observers can share their photos and videos on Instagram and Facebook (#TXPollinators). Pollinators can be difficult to identify, so observers are encouraged to post what they know, which may be a simple description of the species or its behavior.
The WMA has a large, covered pavilion and restrooms available, but most of the area is unimproved, natural area consisting of open fields and post oak woodlands. Attendees are welcome to participate on both days of the Bioblitz, but are not permitted to remain on the property overnight.
Bring: Water, snacks, flashlights and/or headlamps if staying after dark. Don't forget your phone!
Cost: Free!
Registration is required. To register, please contact Blake Hendon by email, phone call, or text message and let him know how many people are attending and on which days.
