Fishing Cover/Structure
The primary cover at Marine Creek is native emergent vegetation along the shoreline. The dam offers some riprap that holds sunfish, crappie, and bass. There is also an old roadbed submerged directly off the boat ramp on the west side of the lake that holds some fish. In 2017, TPWD worked with local partner organizations to install man-made fish habitat structures to provide additional structure. Anglers may use GPS in conjunction with a fish finder to locate these structures.
Use the Habitat Structure Viewer for an interactive map of fish habitat structures and downloadable GPS coordinates.
Tips & Tactics
Catfish can be caught throughout the lake although they are not overly abundant. Crappie can be caught on minnows and jigs along the dam and in the deeper water in the upper ends of the lake around brush piles. Bass are found along the riprap on the dam as well as on the edges of the emergent vegetation. Sunfish can be caught with live worms along the shore. Marine Creek has a nice population of redear sunfish with some nice warmouth being present also.
Marine Creek Lake is participating in the Operation World Record program. ShareLunker largemouth bass were stocked in the lake in November of 2006. Fish are tagged to monitor growth. The minimum length limit was changed in September of 2006 to protect these fish from harvest. If you observe regulation violations occurring please call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-792-4263.
