Watch for male cardinals feeding bugs to their young. Cardinals feed and train their young for a long time compared to many other birds.

Color the Northern Cardinal and Painting Bunting.

Fun to Know:

Both of these birds are known for their beautiful colors. Male cardinals are bright red with a black mask on their face. This bird got its name from its bright color and tall head feathers (crest) which reminded people of Roman Catholic Cardinals who wore red hats and robes.

Male painted buntings are full of colors! They are mostly red with bright blue heads, bright yellow to green shoulders and darker wings and tail.

The females of both of these birds have duller colors. They can better hide from predators when sitting on nests and protecting their young.
