New World Screwworm Media Kit
The New World Screwworm (NWS) is a parasitic blowfly whose larvae feed on the living tissue of warm-blooded animals.
The first case of NWS in Texas was detected on a calf on June 3. TPWD is working with the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and partners to ensure the latest confirmed information is shared with the people of Texas.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists were on site while U.S. Department of Agriculture staff set up a ground dispersal chamber with sterile New World screwworm pupae.
