Fortress Cliffs Ranch Added to Palo Duro Canyon State Park

AUSTIN, Texas — The views from inside Palo Duro Canyon State Park will remain grand thanks to the addition of a 2,912-acre property known as Fortress Cliffs Ranch. The tract has been purchased by a coalition that includes The Trust for Public Land (TPL) and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), protecting almost six miles of scenic cliffs along the park’s northeastern edge.

TPWD Continues Park Upgrades, Faces Increased Costs in 2009 Budget

HOUSTON — Texans will continue to see benefits in 2009 from significant new funding for state and local parks, as well as new money to build a new East Texas fish hatchery and to help game wardens enforce wildlife laws and border security, all part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department 2009 budget.

Texas State Parks Provide Refuge in the Storm

As in past natural disasters, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is opening the gates of Texas state parks to evacuees from Hurricane Dolly. Campsites and screen shelters will be offered free to those who need a temporary place to stay.

Galveston Island State Park to Host Texas Outdoor Family Outings

AUSTIN, Texas — If you’ve been wanting to take the family on a camping trip, but weren’t quite sure how to put up a tent, what equipment to take and where to go to camp, the Texas Outdoor Family program is right up your alley. The first Texas state park-hosted TOF pilot program will be held on Aug. 4-5 at Galveston Island State Park. Huntsville State Park will host a TOF workshop Sept. 13-14.

State Parks Offer "Texas Outdoor Family" Weekend Workshops

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Outdoor Family program is expanding, offering a new series of weekend workshops in state parks this summer and fall. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department began the program two years ago, and is also hosting workshops in local parks through partnerships with cities, river authorities and others.
