ATHENS — The Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame committee is seeking nominations for individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to freshwater fishing in Texas for next year’s hall of fame through Nov. 1, 2019.
TOYAHVALE— Balmorhea State Park is closing its gates Sept. 3 for continued park improvements scheduled to run through Spring 2020.

AUSTIN – Feral hogs are so loathed by landowners in Texas for their habitat destroying behavior that beginning Sept. 1, you won’t even need a hunting license to pursue them on private property. That’s when a new law takes effect removing even more obstacles from controlling hog numbers.
AUSTIN – Game wardens will be out in force patrolling the waterways over the Labor Day holiday weekend to help ensure Texans make it back home safely. They’ll also be educating folks about Kali’s Law, the new mandatory ignition “kill switch” requirement for boat operators that goes into effect Sept. 1.
AUSTIN— The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission (TPW) recognized Prosecutor of the Year award winner Wiley “Sonny” McAfee and Quail Forever during today’s meeting for their contributions and efforts supporting the agency mission to conserve and manage the state’s natural and cultural resources.
AUSTIN – While most Texans are sweltering under a brutal August heat wave, savvy dove hunters will gladly suffer along providing conditions don’t change before the Sept. 1 season opener.
AUSTIN – When gearing up for hunting and fishing this fall, be sure to include two items from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department that won’t take up any more space and offer access to a world of resources: The Texas Outdoor Annual mobile app and the My Texas Hunt Harvest mobile app.
AUSTIN – Starting Sept. 1, anglers must have special authorization through a random draw to harvest a large alligator gar from a section of the Trinity River and follow new regulations when fishing for the state’s largest and long-lived freshwater fish in public waters statewide.
AUSTIN – The Bird City Texas Program (BCT), a new community-focused conservation program designed to support critical bird habitat, is empowering towns to make meaningful changes in how they maintain and build public spaces.
