Texas receives funding to combat white-nose syndrome in bats

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will receive $30,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to research and combat white-nose syndrome, a deadly disease affecting bats across North America.

Game Wardens Investigating Fatal Boat Wreck on Lake Conroe

AUSTIN – Texas game wardens are investigating a fatal boat wreck that occurred Tuesday at about 9 p.m. on Lake Conroe near Atkins Creek. The collision involved two vessels and resulted in the death of Jason Clark, 39, of Magnolia, TX, and injuries to two others.

TPWD Accepting Drawn Hunt Permit Applications for 2017-18 Season

AUSTIN – Hunters can start making plans for the upcoming seasons now by applying for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Drawn Hunts. The online system is currently accepting applications and the first hunt category deadline is less than a month away.

Public Meeting on State Park Development at Inks Lake July 13

BURNET- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will present plans and proposals for development of facilities and recreational use areas at the Inks Lake State Park complex during a public meeting July 13. The public is invited to attend and provide comment on the plans, which will affect Inks Lake State Park, nearby Longhorn Cavern State Park, and the road between the two, historic Park Road 4.

Commercial Gulf Shrimp Season Opens Saturday, July 15

AUSTIN- The Gulf of Mexico commercial shrimp season for both state and federal waters will reopen 30 minutes after sunset on Saturday, July 15. The opening date is based on an evaluation of the biological, social and economic impact to maximize the benefits to the industry and the public. The commercial gulf shrimp season has been closed since May 15.

AUSTIN – Texas Game Wardens logged nearly 13,000 patrol hours on state water bodies over the extended Fourth of July holiday weekend, conducting enhanced boating safety and compliance checks on 17,845 vessels carrying 60,673 boaters.

Galveston County Tax Office to offer boat registration and titling

GALVESTON COUNTY — Beginning July 5, the Galveston County Tax office will partner with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to provide boat titling and registration services to both visitors and residents of Galveston County. Previously, the only title and registration office in the county was the TPWD office in La Marque, about 20 minutes from the city of Galveston.
