Texas Game Warden Heath Bragg Named SEAFWA Officer of the Year

AUSTIN— Texas game warden Heath Bragg was recognized as the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (SEAFWA) Officer of the Year award recipient at today’s Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting. This is the 47th year that this award has been presented to a Texas game warden.

First Case of CWD Detected in Free-Ranging Texas Whitetail

AUSTIN — Chronic wasting disease has been detected in a hunter harvested 1 1/2 –year-old white-tailed buck submitted for sampling within Surveillance Zone 3 in Medina County. This marks the first confirmed case of CWD in a free-ranging Texas whitetail.

LA PORTE – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is conducting a prescribed burn Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site.

Release the Kraken!

AUSTIN- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Artificial Reef Program sank a 371-ft cargo vessel, named The Kraken, on Jan. 20, 2017. Dubbed the Kraken after the mythical, squid-like sea monster immortalized on film and in literature, the vessel was sunk 67 miles off the coast of Galveston to create a new artificial reef.

Record Breaking Attendance at Texas State Parks’ Annual First Day Hikes
