TPW Commission Adopts Interim Deer Breeder Movement Rules

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission at its Thursday public hearing adopted interim rules for captive deer movement requirements to provide the deer breeding industry with continuity and consistency through the 2015-16 hunting season.

AUSTIN— Twelve graduates of the first ever Texas Game Warden Citizen’s Academy were recognized at Thursday’s public meeting of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.

Texas Game Warden Named Texas Wildlife Officer of the Year

AUSTIN – At Thursday’s Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting, TPWD Executive Director Carter Smith recognized Game Warden Benny G. Richards Jr. as this year’s recipient of the Shikar-Safari International Wildlife Officer of the Year Award. The award is presented annually by the worldwide conservation organization to one wildlife law enforcement officer in each state.

Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush Recognizes Texas Game Warden with OSPRA Award

AUSTIN – At Thursday’s Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting, Texas General Land Office Land Commissioner George P. Bush presented the Oil Spill Prevention and Response Award to Game Warden Sgt. Robert Waggett.

Hidden Pines Fire Impacts Buescher and Bastrop State Parks

AUSTIN— The mid-October skies in Smithville were cloaked by a thick smoke after a wildfire ignited near Buescher and Bastrop State Parks. Now that the final embers have been extinguished, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department staff has completed initial assessments of the wildfire impacts on park land.

Duck Hunters Reminded to Follow Clean, Drain and Dry Requirements

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is reminding waterfowl hunters to Clean, Drain and Dry before and after each trip to help avoid spreading invasive species like giant salvinia and zebra mussels. Unknowingly, waders, boats, trailers, even decoys can often harbor these invasive species, spread them to new places and destroy aquatic habitats.

Enchanted Rock Offers Free Shuttle Nov. 8

AUSTIN – In honor of Veterans Day, Friends of Enchanted Rock and Majesty Tours will provide a free shuttle service to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area on Nov. 8 for active and retired military.
