Texas To Receive Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Restoration Funding

AUSTIN – Five Texas-based projects totaling about $18 million have been approved to begin to compensate Texas for lost human use of natural resources resulting from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The three artificial reef and two state park projects are part of the latest round of early restoration led by state and federal Natural Resource Damage Assessment trustees.

HOUSTON – The U.S. Green Building Council has cited the 7,000-square-foot headquarters of the Texas State Parks’ regional offices at Sheldon Lake State Park for its exceptional “green” architectural design that incorporates a number of cost-efficient and energy-saving features.

Zebra Mussels Spread to Lake Waco

ATHENS—Lake Waco has become the seventh lake in Texas to be infested by invasive zebra mussels.

Outlook Improved for Quail Season

AUSTIN – Much-needed rainfall at the right times this year are helping to bolster bobwhite quail numbers and should lead to improved hunting compared to last season, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists.

Hunters can still apply for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s popular drawn public hunts gun deer categories until 11:59 p.m. CST Monday, September 29 through the new online-only Public Hunt Drawing System.

BURNET – Thanks to a newly constructed bird blind at Inks Lake State Park, visitors now have the chance to quietly observe birds flitting from tree to tree, perch on a feeder or sing to other birds.
