AUSTIN — During recent cave surveys and routine white-nose syndrome (WNS) monitoring, biologists found evidence of WNS in tri-colored bats. This is the first known case of WNS in tri-colored bats in Texas and is the southernmost confirmation of WNS in this species.
AUSTIN — Fernando Gutierrez, wildlife technician at Kerr Wildlife Management Area (WMA), is recipient of the 2024 James “Randy” Fugate Memorial Wildlife Division Professional of the Year Award.
AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) graduated the 66th Texas Game Wardens and Texas State Park Police cadet class May 31 at Bannockburn Baptist Church in Austin. The class included 31 game wardens and 10 state park police officers.

AUSTIN – This past Memorial Day weekend, Texas Game Wardens patrolled Texas’ many waterbodies and assisted fellow first responders with rescues and recoveries due to strong storms and extreme heat. Wardens noted a decrease in boating incidents and citations filed, but an increase in drownings and warnings issued.
AUSTIN – The Texas tradition of Free Fishing Day returns this Saturday, June 1, at public waterways across the state. Each year on the first Saturday in June, Texans and our visitors can pack their tackle boxes, get their fishing poles ready and go fish on any public waterway in the state without a fishing license.
AUSTIN— During Thursday’s meeting, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved more than $4.5 million in grants, funding 16 trail construction and maintenance projects across the state.
