Mule Deer Hunters Reminded of CWD Testing Requirements

AUSTIN – Wildlife officials are reminding mule deer hunters and landowners in far West Texas about new protocols developed as part of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Chronic Wasting Disease response plan. The plan includes mandatory check stations for harvested deer and elk taken inside the CWD Containment Zone, which covers portions of Culberson, Hudspeth and El Paso counties. AUSTIN – An advisory group of fishing, boating and conservation interests has made nine recommendations to protect seagrass and five to reduce user conflicts along the Texas coast, Texas Parks and Wildlife Commissioners were told in a briefing here this week.

Drought Slowly Taking Toll on Lakes Brownwood and Coleman

ATHENS—Lakes Brownwood and Coleman are historically known for consistent and decent largemouth bass fishing, where anglers could expect to catch a bunch of small bass with a few keepers along the way and even an occasional big bass. But the current downhill slide of water level, dating back to 2007, is beginning to take a toll on these bass populations based on recent electrofishing surveys, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s standard method of collecting information on numbers and sizes of largemouth bass in a lake.

Emergency Zebra Mussels Order Made Permanent

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission voted Thursday to make permanent an emergency order adding Lake Ray Roberts, Lake Lewisville and the section of the Elm Fork of the Trinity that connects the two reservoirs to the list of water bodies under special regulations intended to control the spread of zebra mussels.

TPW Commission Okays Pursuit of Government Canyon Land Deal

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission at its Thursday meeting authorized Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Executive Director Carter Smith to take all necessary steps to finalize a land purchase that would add roughly 461 acres to the Government Canyon State Natural Area at the northwestern edge of San Antonio.
