Texas Parks and Wildlife Seeks Public Input on ADA Transition Plan

AUSTIN—Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will host two virtual public meetings seeking public input to help determine priorities for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) projects and upgrades to sites and facilities.

Chronic Wasting Disease Discovered in Deer Breeding Facilities in Frio and Hamilton Counties

AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) received confirmation of two new cases of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in separate deer breeding facilities in Hamilton and Frio counties. These cases mark the first detection of the disease in each county.

TPWD Hosts Spring ‘Explore Bowhunting’ Event April 22

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Community Archery Program is joining forces with Inks Lake State Park on April 22 to help the public “Explore Bowhunting.” The event gives participants an opportunity to learn more about hunting with a bow and get a jump on preparations for the new fall season.

Catfish Stocking Arrives at Neighborhood Fishin’ Lakes in April

AUSTIN – Spring is here and that means catfish angling is back at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Neighborhood Fishin’ lakes across the state. The program provides an opportunity for friends and families to participate in the Texas traditions of outdoor recreation by reeling in catfish close to home.

TPWD Cautions: Don’t Handle Wildlife, Especially Babies

AUSTIN — Spring has sprung. With extended sunshine and milder days, more people are enjoying the outdoors as native wildlife adds new fawns and hatchlings to their broods. Texans may start to notice more wildlife in their backyard, neighborhood or surrounding areas. The best thing to do is to leave them alone.

AUSTIN — Now that spring turkey hunting season has begun, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) want to remind gun owners that safe gun storage saves lives. Proper storage protects those you love and keeps firearms out of the hands of criminals.

TFFC Hosts First Deaf Day and Picnic Event April 15

ATHENS — The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) is pleased to announce a brand-new, daylong event on Saturday, April 15. The first-ever Deaf Day and Picnic at the TFFC will run during the center’s regular hours (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) with a variety of family-friendly activities. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic, try their hand at fishing with loaner gear provided by TFFC and enjoy a fun spring day.

Celebrating 100 Years of Texas State Parks with Special April Events

AUSTIN — The Centennial Celebration of Texas State Parks is in full swing as spring brings more Texans outdoors. To commemorate 100 years, every state park will host at least one special community event during the 2023 Centennial year, along with regular park events all year long. In April, state parks across Texas will host a variety of events, including several that commemorate Earth Day. Everyone is invited to join in the fun.
