Garner State Park to Commemorate 70 Years

CONCAN — To celebrate 70 years of serving literally millions of visitors at one of the most visited natural attractions in Texas, Garner State Park will mark its anniversary this Saturday, June 4, and commemorate the role of the historic Civilian Conservation Corp that helped shape the scenic Hill Country retreat located north of the town of Uvalde along the Frio River.

Temple Ranch Given 2011 Texas Leopold Conservation Award

AUSTIN — A couple with East Texas roots – Arthur “Buddy” Temple and his wife Ellen – have been presented the 2011 Leopold Conservation Award for Texas for their transformation of an over-grazed, over-hunted South Texas ranch into a haven for wildlife and valuable research venue.

$3.31 Million in Trails Grants Awarded by TPW Commission

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission today approved $3,318,450 million to fund 21 National Recreational Trail Grant projects in communities across the state. The commission also awarded an additional $485,000 in re-allocated trail funds to underwrite trail improvements in seven state parks and three local communities.

Ribbon-cuttings, Site Tours Mark West Texas Wildlife Trail Opening

AUSTIN – Local dignitaries, conservationists and wildlife-watchers will gather at three sites on the new Far West Texas Wildlife Trail the first week in June to celebrate the opening of the ninth and final wildlife-viewing trail in the statewide wildlife trail system that was launched 15 years ago to bolster Texas nature tourism.

National Fishing Day June 4 at Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center

ATHENS — The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) in Athens will kick off National Fishing and Boating Week by making a family fishing trip affordable with free admission for kids 12 and under plus free fishing for the whole family and free hot dogs and drinks from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4.
