ATHENS—Officials at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center have announced the winners of the Texas division of the Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art Contest.

Toyota ShareLunker Program Winds Up Season 25

ATHENS—The Toyota ShareLunker season just concluded marked the 25th anniversary of the ShareLunker program. During that time 523 fish have been entered. The current season’s 19 entries was about two fish short of the long-term average.

Possum Kingdom State Park’s Recovery from Wildfire Begins

CADDO – Less than two weeks after wildfires swept through Possum Kingdom State Park, burning all but roughly 200 of the lakeside park’s 1,528 acres, infrastructure damages have been assessed, cleanup has begun and park officials are optimistic about recovery.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Partners Restore Lake Brazos Fishery

ATHENS — A recent cooperative effort between Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD Inland Fisheries management staff, the City of Waco, Cameron Park Zoo, and some local scouts from China Spring deployed new fish habitat into Lake Brazos on Wednesday.

Regional Lone Star Land Stewards for 2011 Announced

AUSTIN – Native habitat restoration and enhancement for the benefit of wildlife is a common thread among the recipients of this year’s Lone Star Land Steward Awards. AUSTIN – The last of three scheduled public meetings on the master plan design for redeveloping hurricane-damaged Galveston Island State Park will be held Thursday, May 5, on the Texas A&M Galveston campus.

Cactus Moth Poses New Invasive Species Threat to Texas Biodiversity

AUSTIN — The cactus moth (Cactoblastis cactorum), a non-native insect species from South America, is spreading westward along the Gulf Coast towards Texas. The invasive pest could do significant economic and ecological damage if it reaches Texas, and authorities trying to monitor the path of the moth are asking the public to help prevent it from spreading.
