ATHENS — Entries from Lake Fork into the Toyota ShareLunker Program have been overshadowed recently by reservoirs in other areas of the state, but the Lake Fork Trophy Bass Survey’s eight-year history shows that Lake Fork should remain on the list of any serious trophy bass hunter.
AUSTIN – Visitors trekking to dozens of Texas state parks to take advantage of pleasant spring weather will find new restrooms, revamped playgrounds and campgrounds, and a host of other park upgrades resulting from millions of dollars in completed and ongoing capital repair projects begun last year.

On April 1, avid amateur angler Keith Miller of Waco will start a year-long commitment to catch at least one fish daily for 365 consecutive days. The goal is to build awareness of the importance of connecting young people to the outdoors and developing future stewards of natural resources. Miller will use social media to share his experiences, and he plans a series of public fishing dates to spread awareness in various cities.
ATHENS—A cooperative effort between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) to standardize fishing regulations on waters shared by the two states is nearing fruition.
ATHENS—Gilmer Reservoir sent a new lake record largemouth bass to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) March 17, and the next day Caddo Lake sent the existing lake record largemouth to Athens for the second year in a row.
ATHENS—Six weeks ago it looked like no lake in Texas could catch O.H. Ivie in the Toyota ShareLunker race. By January 30 O.H. Ivie had produced four ShareLunkers, and anglers could follow the smoke to the lake.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Inland Fisheries office in Wichita Falls recently completed a gill net survey of hybrid striped bass and channel catfish populations at Lake Wichita, and the results are very encouraging.
Spring turkey hunters are going to see a lot of jakes and hear from even more this season, but success in finding mature gobblers will depend on hunting location.
