Deadline to Enter Big Time Texas Hunts is Oct. 15

AUSTIN — Break out your hunting “bucket list” and enter the Big Time Texas Hunts for a chance to check something off. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is reminding Texas hunters the deadline to enter this year’s Big Time Texas Hunts is Oct. 15. Winners will be called before the end of October to give them time to make their hunting trip preparations.

Big Bend Ranch Cattle Drive Set for Oct. 21-23

PRESIDIO – Live the lore of the Old West by saddling up for the biannual Longhorn Cattle Drive taking place Oct. 21-23 in Texas’ largest state park – Big Bend Ranch. This fall marks the 16th year of the state park’s most popular program that attempts to expose “city slickers” to the Southwest’s cowboy culture.

Sul Ross Receives TPWD Grant to Address Pronghorn Decline

ALPINE — In an effort to investigate an alarming and unexplained decline of pronghorn in far West Texas, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has awarded a 3-year $111,210 grant to the Borderlands Research Institute for Natural Resource Management at Sul Ross State University.

Caprock Canyons Bison Herd to Become More Visible

QUITAQUE – The Wildlife Division of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has shifted management of the Caprock Canyons State Park bison herd to TPWD’s State Parks Division. Park employees say the shift will bring about some exciting changes, including expanding the grazing range of the official Texas State Bison Herd from a half-section enclosure to eventually the whole state park over time and thus increasing viewing opportunities for park visitors.

Toyota Texas Bass Classic Returns to Lake Conroe October 1–3

LAKE CONROE — The Toyota Texas Bass Classic, a Professional Anglers Association- sanctioned event, returns to Lake Conroe Oct. 1—3. The competition benefits Texas Parks & Wildlife Department efforts to introduce young people and urban families to fishing and the outdoors.
