Dove, Teal Seasons Set

AUSTIN, Texas — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service SRC (Service Regulation Committee) has approved the 2010-2011 Texas dove season, including a 70-day season and 15-bird daily bag statewide, and a 16-day early teal season.

Liberty, Texas, Student Wins Top Honors in State-Fish Art Contest

ATHENS—Anh Thu Do of Liberty is the 2010 winner of the Art of Conservation Stamp Award in the 12th annual Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art Contest, it was announced Saturday at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, site of this year’s contest expo.

Nominations Sought for Leopold Conservation Award, Lone Star Land Steward Awards

The $10,000 Leopold award is the statewide accolade within the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Lone Star Land Steward Award Program, which also recognizes land stewards in 10 different ecological regions and in corporate, co-operative and special categories. The awards recognize Texas ranchers and other landowners who demonstrate outstanding, sustainable management of natural resources.

Full Slate of Repair Projects to Commence at Bastrop State Park

BASTROP — A host of major repair and renovation projects are set to start Aug. 1 at Bastrop State Park, and while the park will remain open for day use and overnight stays, some cabins and campsites will be temporarily unavailable during construction.

TPWD Sets Public Meeting on Adding Algae to Proposed List of Approved Exotic Aquatic Plants

AUSTIN – The use of algae for beneficial purposes such as the production of biofuels has recently received increased attention.  The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department wants to ensure the introduction of algae not normally found in Texas or surrounding waters will not harm the state’s natural resources.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Hunter Education Instructors Needed

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will be conducting a free Hunter Education New Instructor Training Workshop Saturday, August 14th, 2010, in Grand Prairie, Texas. The workshop will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the North Texas Education Center, 5411 Robinson Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052.

Gulf of Mexico Shrimp Season Opens July 15
