CO-OP Program Awards More Than $2 Million in Grants to Texas Communities
AUSTIN – Communities in Texas will have more opportunities to explore their natural surroundings thanks to grants awarded through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO-OP). These 41 grant partnerships, totaling $2,048,678, will support community-based conservation and outdoor recreation activities throughout the state and build on $22 million already awarded by TPWD over the past 25 years.

AUSTIN – Texas Game Wardens are currently accepting applications for summer internships across the state. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department encourages college students of all backgrounds and fields of study to apply for these 12 available openings.
TPWD Works Alongside TDCJ to Facilitate Safe Movement of Large Bat Colony
HUNTSVILLE – To address concerns about the welfare of a large colony of free-tailed bats in a warehouse operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is working alongside TDCJ staff to develop a safe, slow, and progressive movement (exclusion) of the bats from the building. The exclusion effort will help to minimize potential human-bat conflict.
Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Texas Trustees Releases Second Draft Restoration Plan
TEXAS—The Texas Trustee Implementation Group (TIG) is working to restore the Texas coast along the Gulf of Mexico after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and has released its Draft Restoration Plan/Environmental Assessment #2. This plan includes restoration projects to partially compensate for the injury to natural resources caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The total estimated cost for the 13 proposed projects in the draft plan is approximately $39 million.

TPWD Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Texas Hunter Education
AUSTIN – This week, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hunter Education. The first course in Texas was held on Feb. 28, 1972. Since then, over 1.5 million students have completed Texas Hunter Education throughout the state.
National Invasive Species Awareness Week Feb. 28 – Mar. 4 Encourages Action to Combat Harmful, Non-Native Plants and Wildlife
AUSTIN – During National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW), Feb. 28 – March 4 this year, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) asks Texans to help slow the spread of invasive species affecting our state’s natural resources and economy. The Office of the Governor has recognized NISAW with an official proclamation.
Bird Conservation, Education, and Outreach Considered a Badge of Honor
AUSTIN – Audubon Texas and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), partners in the Bird City Texas initiative, are proud to announce that the City of Dripping Springs has received certification recognizing their efforts to ensure birds, wildlife, and people thrive in their communities. Dripping Springs exhibited leadership in 3 categories: Community Engagement, Habitat Protection, and Threat Reduction. The 3-year Bird City Texas certification for the community lasts through 2024.
